Post-surgery eye care
Following laser eye surgery, the surgeon recommends the following eye care for the best patient recovery. Each recommendation is specific to the surgical procedure:
Post PRK:
Post-PRK, a soft contact lens is placed on the eye and left for 3-4 days whilst the epithelium restores itself. There may be mild to moderate discomfort for 1 to 2 days following PRK, because of the healing taking place on the outer layer of the cornea; this is usually controlled with topical or oral medications.
Post Lasik:
Post-LASIK, as mentioned previously most patients are able to return to work the next day following surgery. Antibiotic eye drops are administered for a week following the procedure to reduce the chance of infection.
Post Lasek:
Post-LASEK, patients are required to wear soft contact lens over the operated eye for 3-4 days to help keep the cells in place during healing.
Post Epi-Lasik:
Post Epi-LASIK, visual recovery is faster than LASEK and PRK but patient still requires to have contact lens over the operated eye for few days.
Consult your Doctor:
It is also recommended that patients post laser vision correction surgery visit their ophthalmologist at several time points to test improvement of vision and to ensure no adverse reactions have developed. In the immediate future following eye surgery patients are recommended to visit the following day and week. Visits to their ophthalmologist in the long term is also highly recommended, these time points include 1, 3, 6 months and at 1 year post laser vision correction surgery.
